Recently, members of the HPD Youth Police Advisory Council
(YPAC) conducted the Teen Driver Safety (TDS) presentation at the Houston Chapter
Status of Women Seminar at the Brentwood Baptist Church.
The Teen Driver Safety Program is sponsored by State Farm
and provides information on the consequences and dangers of driving while under
the influence of alcohol or drugs, and distracted driving. It is a hands-on
experience conducted in schools and public events across the city.
Motor vehicle crashes are the No 1 cause of death among
teens in the United States according to State Farm Teen Driving Facts. These
facts also tell us that 56% of all driving teens rely on their parents to learn
how to drive. With that in mind, The TDS experience promotes peer-to-peer
interaction while at the same time enhancing driving behaviors for parents.
